1. What Lumotraq Does
Lumotraq is a free browser extension and web application that measures the carbon footprint of digital advertising. The extension detects ads on the websites you visit and estimates their CO2 emissions.
2. Data We Process
Browser extension. The extension processes data locally on your device. This data does not leave your browser unless you create an account and opt in to sync:
— URLs of websites you visit (to detect ads)
— Ad format and network classification
— Page load metrics and device type
— Estimated CO2 per page visit
Account (optional). If you sign up for the dashboard, we additionally process:
— Email address (for authentication)
— Aggregated emission data (synced to our servers)
— Country and region (derived from your IP via IPInfo.io; the raw IP is not stored)
Website visitors. When you visit lumotraq.com we process standard server logs, cookies as described in our Cookie Policy, and anonymized analytics via PostHog (EU).
3. Legal Basis
— Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) — for non-essential cookies and analytics
— Contractual necessity (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) — to provide the dashboard when you create an account
— Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — for security, abuse prevention, and service improvement
4. Processors
We do not sell personal data. We share data only with service providers acting on our instructions:
— Firebase / Google Cloud (EU region) — authentication and data storage
— IPInfo.io (USA) — IP-based geolocation
— PostHog (EU Cloud, Frankfurt) — anonymized usage analytics
— Sentry (EU) — error tracking
— AdOpt — consent management
Where data leaves the EU/EEA (e.g. IPInfo.io), we rely on EU Standard Contractual Clauses under Chapter V GDPR.
5. Retention
— Account data: for as long as your account is active; deleted within 30 days of deletion request
— Extension data: stored locally on your device, deletable at any time in extension settings
— Server logs: 90 days
— Analytics: anonymized after 12 months
6. Your Rights
Under GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde). To exercise these rights, contact Lumotraq.
7. Cookies
See our Cookie Policy. You can manage preferences at any time via the cookie settings in our website footer.
8. Children
Lumotraq is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
9. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via our website.
