Help & support

Answers to common questions about the Lumotraq extension: privacy and data, supported browsers, how the measurement works and how to reach out.

Questions about the Lumotraq extension. For how we measure, see the methodology; for plans, see pricing; for the full data policy, see the privacy policy.

What data does the Lumotraq extension collect about me?

The extension detects the ads and trackers a page loads, on your device, to estimate their footprint. We don't build a profile of your browsing and we don't collect personal data. Before you create an account, only anonymous, aggregate measurements are processed — for example, how many ads were seen and their estimated CO₂ — and the specific sites you visit are not sent. Full per-domain history is only stored once you've signed up and given consent.

Does Lumotraq block ads, or just measure them?

By default Lumotraq only measures — it shows the carbon footprint of the ads you see without changing the page. Blocking is a separate mode you can switch on if you want it.

Which browsers can I install the Lumotraq extension on?

Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Brave and other Chromium-based browsers. It's live in the Chrome Web Store, Microsoft Edge Add-ons and Firefox Add-ons; Brave installs it from the Chrome Web Store.

Is Lumotraq's data stored in the EU?

Yes. Our backend runs in an EU region and our product analytics use an EU-based service, routed through our own lumotraq.com domain.

Why is the number in my extension different from the number on your Ad-Carbon Index?

They measure different things. The extension measures your own live browsing session with ads actually loaded, while the Ad-Carbon Index estimates a site from a single cold homepage visit. Both are correct for what they measure, so they won't match.

How do I open the side panel instead of the small popup?

Lumotraq shows a compact popup by default. In Settings you can switch it to open the full side panel when you click the toolbar icon.

Chrome says the extension isn't trusted by Enhanced Safe Browsing — is something wrong?

No. That's a standard notice Chrome shows some users for newer extensions, and only to people who have turned on Enhanced Safe Browsing. It clears over time as our verified-publisher status builds. Your data and the extension's behaviour are unaffected.

A site I visit isn't being measured — can I add it?

Yes. Use the "Add this domain" request on our Ad-Carbon Index page. Requests are logged and reviewed for the next update, and the most-requested domains are prioritised.

How do I pause or uninstall Lumotraq?

You can pause measurement any time from the extension without uninstalling, or remove it entirely from your browser's Extensions menu like any other extension.

How do I report a bug or get help?

Email hello@lumotraq.com with what you were doing and which browser you're on, and we'll take a look.
