You're all set

You're now measuring the media footprint of the ads you meet

Lumotraq is a free browser extension that measures the carbon footprint of the ads you encounter as you browse. It runs quietly in the background, shows a live and session count of the ads on each page, and helps you build lighter, more productive web sessions — no account required.

How does Lumotraq measure ad carbon?

Lumotraq detects the ads on each page and estimates the emissions of delivering them, using a methodology built on the Ad Net Zero Global Media Sustainability Framework and GHG Protocol Scope 3 principles. A display ad impression is roughly 0.84 g CO₂e and a video ad impression roughly 1.24 g CO₂e. See the full methodology →

Check any site's ad carbon — for free

Use the free Ad-Carbon Checker to measure the ad emissions of any domain, or browse the Ad-Carbon Index to see websites ranked by their ad carbon footprint. Neither needs an account.

Is Lumotraq free?

Yes. The Lumotraq browser extension is free and needs no account. It works entirely on your device, and free tools like the Ad-Carbon Checker and Ad-Carbon Index are open to everyone.

Can I stop measuring on certain sites?

Yes. Open the popup menu and choose Never measure this site, or add domains under Settings → Allowlist. Allowlisted sites are left completely alone — never measured and never filtered.
